From the first exhibition to an international platform – the key milestones of Galerie Sara Armanfar.
Read the full chronologyThe gallery opened in a former warehouse in Vienna. The debut exhibition "Spaces of the In-Between" featured six young positions from Austria and Hungary. Around 400 visitors attended the vernissage – an encouraging start.
2017With the "Art in Dialogue" series, the gallery began offering regular workshops and open studios. The format met with great response: over 1,200 participants took part in the first year. The local press called it a "new place of encounter."
2019First exchange projects with galleries in Berlin and Zurich. The joint exhibition "Topographies of Memory" subsequently traveled to Budapest and Prague. The catalog was funded by the Federal Cultural Foundation.
2021In response to the pandemic, the team developed a virtual platform for 360° tours and artist talks. The website recorded over 8,000 visits in the first month. The hybrid format was retained and has since complemented the physical exhibitions.
2023The gallery received the Recognition Award of the City of Vienna for its educational program. The jury particularly highlighted the "Art Pat*ins" project, where young people curate themselves. The budget for educational formats was subsequently doubled.
2025With the move to the larger location at Vorgartenstraße 875, the exhibition space doubled. Two new curators are joining the team. The opening exhibition "Material and Gesture" brings together 15 international artists and runs until September.

Our gallery is aimed at artists who experiment with installation, sculptural, and media forms. Likewise, at collectors and institutions seeking conceptually grounded positions. The dialogue between work and viewer is at the center of every presentation.
Curated programs for discerning perspectivesEach exhibition is developed as an independent narrative. We work with artists over several months on the realization – from the first sketch to the final hanging. The focus is on materiality, spatial impact, and engagement with social issues.
Process-oriented and site-specificWe communicate factually, precisely, and without exaggeration. Artistic work needs space, not advertising promises. That is why we describe projects as they are: with details about material, context, and creation. No empty phrases, no false urgency.
Honest, direct, well-foundedThe gallery maintains collaborations with independent curators, architects, and cultural institutions in German-speaking countries. Projects regularly arise in public spaces or in cooperation with universities and art colleges. Exchange and networking are an integral part of our work.
Cooperations with universities and cultural institutionsThe gallery is located at Vargaring 875, a former industrial building with high ceilings and daylight. The space offers room for both large-scale installations and intimate presentations. Visitors are welcome by appointment or during opening hours.
